Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) The musical quality of an album can easily be estimated from the degree of attraction of my undivided attention over a longer time interval, forcing me to concentrate exclusively on the music while blanking out all distractors around me. Needless to say that a 100% rate is achieved rarely. Judging by this simple measure, this sublime album by Spanish one-man band Manoel Macía is one of the top-notch buys in my collection. Like his overwhelming 2017 album "La noche escalonada", "Infinito" draws on a rich selection of instrumental sounds, part of which he generates with MIDI gear. As he revealed in an older interview, he used a Roland GR30 guitar synthesizer connected to a Paul Reed Smith guitar then. The sound Manoel Macía generates is remarkably lush, while remaining pleasantly transparent, and his songwriting always proceeds on unexpected paths, leaving much room for nice surprises. Perhaps that's exactly the secret ingredient in his music that manages to draw my total attention in the way mentioned above. Favorite track: Instinto.
